Chit chat for chai

You will travel these topics at your own risk. You may not like what you find. And you may not believe what is in fact, fact.

Back by popular demand, our resident randomness expert Karishma brings you seven things you could really do without, but are better off knowing.

Her warning: You may not like what you find. And you may not believe what is in fact, fact.

But share them with your children. Step into someone else’s shoes. Imagine.

I have developed a really random and sudden fascination with numbers recently. Throughout my trip to Italy I caught myself spotting house numbers, road numbers, tram numbers, ticket numbers, calculating the total number of modes of transport and also totaling the number of Gelato cones being consumed in a day (all the while the Gujju in me was calculating how much the Gelato industry makes during hot summer months). So here are some tidbits in reference to numbers, a little chit chat for your chai.

1. Thomas Edison accumulated a whopping total of 2,332 patents worldwide for his inventions.

2. In a matter of 10 minutes, 1 hurricane can release more energy than all the world’s nuclear weapons combined.

3. 35% of people who have used personal ads for dating are already married.

4. It is believed that a person shares their birthday with at least 9 million other people.

5. A jiffy is an actual unit of time—it is 1/100th of a second.

6. The Earth gets 100 tons heavier EVERYDAY because of falling dust.

7. 95% of people say things via text messages which they can’t say in person.
