South Asian Parent is a resource for South Asian families caught between cultures and identities.
Because South Asians live in so many countries around the world, parents are often faced with conflicting values:
“Should I let my 12-year-old have a boyfriend?”
“Should I teach my son English or Hindi, take my daughter to ballet or Bharat Natyam?”
Answering questions like those are not simple; and that’s where we come in. We help parents answer difficult questions, especially those who are raising children in a culture very different from the one they grew up in.
We believe navigating an unknown space requires a shift in the sometimes stringent boundaries of South Asian thinking, and that we can be a catalyst for that change.
We encourage acceptance by raising awareness and getting families talking about things they might otherwise avoid.
We unite families by encouraging honest communication, offering ways to approach difficult conversations, and providing explanations behind various South Asian practices.
We strive to help people lead less conflicted identities and lives. Whether parent or child, we want you to be yourself, without judgment and with confidence.
